Kitchen Trends of 2021 So Far

Kitchen remodeling, among other things, has definitely been affected by the past year. Homeowners are being influenced by their extended time at home, according to Houzz. If you yourself are trying to figure out where to go with your own kitchen, whether it be a remodel or completely new, and need some inspiration, then look no further. A good way to gather ideas is by looking at what is trending and carry the ideas into your own home.

Studies have already been conducted as to what is either losing steam, gaining popularity, or returning from the shadows to once again share the limelight. Houzz also makes note that kitchen storage has had a big growth since the pandemic began. Homeowners are leaning towards newer cabinet systems, with more going towards completely replacing them. While storage is rising, the trend for kitchens being opened up entirely to other areas have dropped somewhat.

Check out their own article for percentages.

The Decorologist, and Homes & Gardens have listed a few examples of each of these kitchen trends.

Trends According to The Decorologist

The Decorologist also mentions Houzz’s studies as well as FIXR, another website similar in concept. The general premise is this:

  • Hardwood floors are dropping in popularity, while floors made of tile (multi-colored) are taking the rise to fame.

  • Smart devices and applications are being tied to kitchens now more than ever, such as Alexa.

  • The use of marble and quartz for surfaces has seen a big boom, especially with patterns streaking through them.

The Decorologist also has a few predictions not only for what is in store for the rest of 2021, but for the next seven years or so. They believe that a warmer color pallet is taking a rise, such as green for example. Also, kitchens are being used now more for living spaces as well as cooking, leaning towards certain design decisions.

Trends According to Homes & Gardens

Homes and Gardens supplied a big list of 28 different rising kitchen trends. A good number of them are from the past, making a comeback. Here are a couple:

  • Like the Decorologist, Homes and Gardens points out a rise in marble surfacing.

  • They point out color contrasts. For example, two colors that don’t usually come close together such as green and pink.

  • Sink skirts apparently were frowned upon for a time. Now, they’re coming back strong.

  • A black color pallet for your kitchen may seem gloomy and depressing in theory, but can actually pop in a very warm and welcoming way depending on what you place along with it.

  • Wood finishes are returning, of course, and this means wooden textures for the surfacing of your floor, counters, etc.

Conclusion

It is always a good idea to keep up with the trends of home improvement when you are looking to do something fresh. Doing so can help you with the decision making along the way, whether that be a kitchen remodel, or even a new deck out back.
