Projects for the Seasons

Depending on what you want done with your home, the time of year can have a serious impact on your decisions. There are things that you would want to have more for the spring and summer months, and vice versa for the fall and winter. It is probably a safe bet that you wouldn’t be looking to get a new outdoor pool area around the dawning of January. However, each corner of the year is appropriate for a certain type of project, and if you are looking to add on in sync with the year, then you may need some inspiration.

Spring and summer has everybody spilling out of their homes with spring fever. The heat invites more outdoor activity, such as a swim in the aforementioned pool, a fire in the stone pit for roasting some marshmallows, and of course cookouts for all the events, big and little.

Fall and winter inspire the opposite, which can create a more homely and relaxed vibe. This is especially true when curled up by the fireplace with a good book, or having a nice and warm family dinner. Another thing to think about are the holidays that come in bulk during the colder seasons. What can you do with your home to assist you during those months if you are hosting, or desire to take on the responsibility of hosting.

Below are some ideas that can maybe help you along with the decision making as the new season kicks in.

Projects for the Spring and Summer

Fire pits have become all the rage, and for good reason. Surrounding a good fire at the beginning of spring is a vibe unlike any other. Potentially, a good place to put one of these is on top of a new patio. Being an outside addition to the home, patios work better as a warm weather add on since they won’t be as frequently used when the weather begins to get colder.

Maybe think about placing an outside table on the patio for a place to eat family dinner under an open sky? It also gives your guests a comfortable and familiar place to eat during a cookout, which also brings to mind the suggestion of moving your grill to the patio as well. Also, maybe connect it to the pool, for something more smooth underfoot as you traverse in and out of the water.

Another warm weather suggestion would be, of course, a new deck. If the patio isn’t necessarily what you are looking for, or if it just doesn’t work with the type of home that you have, a deck is always a strong alternative. It is a good location for the family table, or for a pool that the deck itself can level out with, among other things. Imagine this, sitting out on your new deck with a belly full of cooked food and the family hanging around you, looking up into the sky to watch the fireworks of Independence Day crack against the backdrop of night.

If a deck is what you decide to go with, make sure to check out TimberTech or AZEK. They give great decking material that looks good, is environmentally friendly, and lasts a good while.

Projects for the Fall and Winter

As fall picks up, things get rather hectic. The holiday season comes in pretty quickly, and this is usually accompanied by much more family activity than usual. As the outside weather gets less than favorable, splitting the family up outside on the new deck or patio may not be the best option. This is where a well placed addition can come in serious handy.

Think maybe a good screen room or sunroom. Split the family crowds up between the dining room as well as the new additions. Depending on your taste, the windows can open up to reveal the fall just outside, or even the winter snows. Also, if you’re into this sort of thing, getting the right kind of windows can allow the fresh air inside depending on the temperature of the weather. Take a look at Eze Breeze if you are considering such a thing. They will let you feel the air outside without the calamities of nature reaching your furniture.

As those months fade away, and the slower time of year during January or February starts creeping by, maybe take advantage of this time of year. Maybe think on a completely new room addition to your house. This one will be a little more time consuming, and even a little dirtier as the walls are opened to allow this expansion. However, if you have been considering more space for a while, a new room addition is definitely something to consider as more family come in, or maybe if you are also thinking of a home theater?

Adding onto your home is an important decision, and there are several key factors in making these decisions that some may not think of. The time of year, as this article will tell you, is one of those significant factors. In the end, no matter what you decide, L.P. Homes will be there to deliver.
